About

SHUT DOWN is a thought-provoking FILM INSTALLATION from critically acclaimed Vincent Dance Theatre. SHUT DOWN investigates the pressures, contradictions and confusions of being a man, shining a fierce and funny light on; masculinity, gender fluidity, absent fatherhood, male depression, pornography and misogyny through movement, spoken word and striking visual imagery.

‘I can honestly say that I feel changed… It was a stunning production which I genuinely feel… should be seen by all young men.’

SHUT DOWN is a collaborative piece, devised by VDT and Brighton based youth charity AudioActive. Performed by an outstanding cast of seven male performers, including three exceptionally talented teenagers. The work is accessible yet provocative political theatre raising questions and awareness in the current climate of sexual harassment, gender equality and everyday sexism.

SHUT DOWN plays on a multi-screen format, reflecting the fragmented way we now filter our world through digital devices, demanding active viewing from the audience.

SHUT DOWN is the companion work of VIRGIN TERRITORY and both films are available to book alongside VDT’s extensive Social Engagement and Teaching & Learning activities.
