About VDT
VDT produces the socially engaged work of Artistic Director and Choreographer Charlotte Vincent on stage and on film, moving people to think differently about issues of our time.
VDT brings professionals and non-professionals together to create Productions and Special Projects that are widely distributed and applied in both arts and non-arts settings.
VDT’s work is inclusive, collaborative and trauma-informed and imbued with robust safeguarding at every stage of the creative process. Participation and Professional Development is central to everything we do.
We prioritise working with young people and women at risk, placing the female experience centre stage to provoke debate around equality of opportunity and highlight the need for social change, especially around violence towards women and girls (VAWG).
VDT is a National Portfolio Organisation funded by Arts Council England and Associate Artist at Brighton Dome and Festival.
Our registered Office & Archive Space is at Community Base in Central Brighton. Our Participation Space is based at Moulsecoomb Place, East Brighton.

One of the most important feminist artists working in Britain today. Contemporary dance fans should beat a path to her door.

Our vision
Dance theatre that actively interrogates who we are and how we live, is a platform for people whose voices might not otherwise be heard, and a space to promote equality of opportunity and social change.
Our mission
We produce and distribute collaborative, socially engaged dance theatre work on stage, on film and across online platforms. We create opportunities for people whose voices are usually less well heard. We move people to think differently.
Our values
Socially engaged: the voices of people who might not otherwise be heard are audible at every stage of our creative process.
Practice led: we embed new learning and development in all areas of our activity and operation; safeguarding, trauma awareness and trust are at the heart of our practice.
Relevant: we promote equality of opportunity and inclusion in all aspects of our practice; our work consciously challenges the status quo.
Opportunity driven: we enable employment, training and development opportunities for trustees, staff members, freelance collaborators and non-professionals participants.
VDT has moved into Moulsecoomb Place, a new home for creativity, collaboration, and opportunity, right in the heart of East Brighton.
Developed in 2025 by East Brighton Trust (EBT) in partnership with Audio Active, this vibrant community space brings together creativity, social enterprise and local residents to share skills and ideas.
Located at the iconic Manor House at Moulsecoomb Place on Lewes Road, VDT facilitate our participation work from here, running workshops in The Skep and in the adjacent Mouslecoomb Hall.
Every organisation based here contributes to a shared mission: to make creativity and opportunity accessible to everyone in East and North Brighton so that the community benefits first. VDT is working alongside Audio Active , Culture Shift and Brighton People’s Theatre to develop community driven participation opportunities with local residents.
VDT has developed a new partnership with Moulsecoomb Hall which houses a large, sprung wooden floor, orignally from Brighton’s famous Regent Ballroom.

Historic building with light brick walls and turquoise shutters. White arches support a porch, surrounded by lush greenery under a cloudy sky.
VDT’s registered office and administrative base is currently at Community Base, Central Brighton.
Throughout 2026, this space also hosts our ongoing Archive Project – many hard drives of digital work and boxes of paper based artifacts and materials from 1994 – 2026. Our aim is to house these in late 2026 at a national institution, at which time we will fully locate VDT to our base at Moulsecoomb Place in East Brighton.
