Our new base for VDT’s participation work is at Moulsecoomb Place, a home for creativity, collaboration, and opportunity, right in the heart of East Brighton.

Developed by East Brighton Trust (EBT) in partnership with Audio Active, this vibrant community space aims to bring together creative practice, social enterprise and local residents to share skills, ideas and inspiration.

VDT is working alongside Audio Active, Culture Shift and Brighton People’s Theatre to develop participation opportunities with our local communities to make creativity and opportunity accessible to everyone in East Brighton.

Easily accessible by public transport, Moulsecoomb Place is made up of the historic Manor House (where the creative organisations are based), the Tithe Barn and the surrounding gardens – all of which are under EBT’s stewardship. At the heart of the site is The Skep, a warm, welcoming community space designed for meeting, making, learning and collaborating.

The Skep will host VDT’s workshops, screenings and live events, with VDT’s movement and dance sessions taking place just across the grass in Moulsecoomb Hall, an accessible community space with an incredible sprung wooden dance floor – reputedly re-homed from a former ballroom in central Brighton!

From April 2026, VDT kickstarts our free, inclusive Dance & Performance Programme for Young People aged 14-24 at Moulsecoomb Hall, including a Dance Improvisation session (Mondays 4.30pm-6.00pm), Dance & Performance training (Weds 5.00-6.30pm) and Performance Intensives (on various Sundays). All genders are welcome.

You can find all the details here.

From September 2026, VDT will develop a Performance Collective for Young People: an alternative to other dance and performance provision in Brighton and Hove, which can feel both geographically and financially out of reach for many young people living in East Brighton.

We also recognise that food insecurity is a real issue in in the area so we’re also making food available before all of our sessions so that young people can travel straight from school or college to our sessions. Young people studying at home, or those who find mainstream education too challenging to attend, are particularly welcome to join in, adding a creative, physical activity to their week.

As Gary Pleece, CEO of East Brighton Trust, says: ‘Our vision is one of an inclusive local economy where everyone has the chance to shape their own future, no matter their background. Moulsecoomb Place is a huge step towards that, creating real pathways into skills, creativity, enterprise and community connection. We want to see system change for those that don’t get the same access as the rest of the city.’

Sessions start April 13, 2026 at Moulsecoomb Hall, Lewes Road,  Brighton BN2 4GA.

Everybody is Welcome!

I loved the experience as we might not usually be able to do stuff like this. It was brilliant and I felt like everyone was confident in joining in.
