Mentoring Intensive with Charlotte Vincent

Develop your choreographic and / or socially engaged creative practice over 3 days in Brighton.

An invitation to independent artists, practitioners and artistic directors to bring a current project, idea, concept or area of creative practice to explore and develop under the guidance of mentor Charlotte Vincent.

Participants will filter their ideas and practice through Vincent’s own rigorous methodology, to explore taking creative risks in a supportive, trauma-informed environment, learning as your own and others’ processes develop and unfold.

Each day will begin with an open and expansive warm-up / somatic practice session led by VDT’s Participation Producer and brilliant dance practitioner Antonia Grove, followed by rigorous and reflective mentoring sessions with Charlotte based around each participant’s chosen area of work.

The residency offers an invaluable space to challenge and scrutinise your creative  practice, clarify concepts and inject your usual approach with new ideas.  You will also be  part of a group offering peer knowledge exchange, exploration and support.

After three days of intensive work, we hope artists might feel less isolated and more connected with their practice and each other.

VDT is expert in safeguarding and aim to ensure everyone taking part feels safe and supported in order  to engage fully and authentically with their creativity. The work will take place at Ceyda Tanc’s The Studio in Brighton – a calm space where lunch can be eaten communally and small break out rooms can be used to write and reflect over the three days.

Included in the residency is an opportunity for a  one to one mentoring session with Charlotte and a follow-up online session in February / March 2026 to reflect on progress made and to consolidate learning – sessions that support mentees to reflect and apply any learning beyond the time shared in Brighton.

We invite independent artists to propose a project or area of practice to work on over the residency via a simple Expression of Interest.  Selected participants will be invited alongside (up to) 7 other creative practitioners. Participants should attend all three days.
