VDT’s new participation base is at Moulsecoomb Place, a home for creativity, collaboration, and opportunity right in the heart of East Brighton. Developed by East Brighton Trust (EBT) in partnership with Audio Active, this vibrant community space brings together creativity, social enterprise and local residents to share skills, ideas and inspiration.
VDT is working alongside Audio Active, Culture Shift and Brighton People’s Theatre to develop community driven participation opportunities with local residents, contributing to a shared mission: to make creativity and opportunity accessible to everyone in East Brighton.
Located at the iconic Moulsecoomb Place on Lewes Road, the historic Manor House and Tithe Barn are now under EBT’s stewardship. At the heart of the site is The Skep, a warm, welcoming community space designed for meeting, making, learning and collaborating.
Whilst The Skep will host VDT’s workshops, screenings and small performance events, VDT’s movement and dance activities take place in the Moulsecoomb Hall, just across the grass, which houses an incredible sprung wooden dance floor – reputedly rehomed from a ballroom in central Brighton!
From April 2026, VDT is offering a new, free, inclusive Dance & Performance Programme for Young People in East Brighton in Moulsecoomb Hall, including a dance improvisation session (Mondays), a dance performance training session (Weds) and performance intensives (Sundays). You can find the details on our website here.
From September 2026, VDT will also develop a Performance Collective for young people in East Brighton as a free, inclusive alternative to current dance offers in central Brighton, which often remain both geographically and financially out of reach for many young residents living in this area.
As Gary Pleece, CEO of East Brighton Trust says:
‘Our vision is one of an inclusive local economy where everyone has the chance to shape their own future, no matter their background. Moulsecoomb Place is a huge step towards that, creating real pathways into skills, creativity, enterprise and community connection. We want to see system change for those that don’t get the same access as the rest of the city.’
VDT also recognise that food insecurity is a real issue in East Brighton, so we’re making food available before our classes, meaning young people can travel straight to weekday sessions from school or college. Young people who find mainstream education a real challenge are particularly welcome to join our sessions – giving parents and carers a break and adding a free creative and physical activity to a young person’s week.

I loved the experience as we might not usually be able to do stuff like this. It was brilliant and I felt like everyone was confident in joining in.
