Charlotte Vincent has mentored a wide range of established and emerging performance makers, supporting Artists to interrogate and develop their own practice and explore new creative strategies to produce their best work. Charlotte mentors Artists via two pathways:
Practice Focused Mentoring:
Starting via a discussion with the Artist about where they are currently at with their practice and what they are trying to achieve through working together, Charlotte develops a bespoke approach to interrogate methodology and unlock new approaches that will develop immediate and long term creative breakthroughs. Led by the Artist, and capitalising on 30 years of choreography, direction and company leadership, Mentoring can be a one off remote / real time exchange that addresses immediate needs and offers ways forward, or a series of sessions that unlock and explore practice remotely or in VDT’s studio in Brighton, where Mentees are offered free space between sessions to work through approaches and ideas that have emerged through their work with Charlotte. Mentoring is usually supported by the Artist applying for ACE National Lottery funded DYCP grants or equivalent (VDT will support the writing of these applications).
Production Led Mentoring:
Charlotte has worked as Co-Director / outside eye with many Artists she has mentored as a natural progression to the beneficial shifts they encounter in their practice through working with her in the early stages of mentoring. Charlotte supports the Artist to clarify concepts, stage new ideas and push their vision forward into performance. Charlotte’s role as Co-Director / outside eye is usually supported by the Artist applying for ACE National Lottery Project Grants or equivalent (VDT will support the writing of these applications).
Artist’s lived experience often informs their work and when scrutinising practice and unpicking reasons for making work, personal issues and past traumas can resurface. Prior to working with Charlotte, VDT will discuss any additional support the Artist may need to ensure a safe framework for this mentoring journey to take place.
How to work with Charlotte
If you are interested in being mentored by Charlotte Vincent, please send an expression of interest email to VDT’s General Manager Kim Johnson: firstname.lastname@example.org, outlining who you are, your background & experience, what strand of mentoring you would like to progress on and some information about your project/practice.
Vincent Dance Theatre are committed to providing equality of opportunity to all potential Mentees. We particularly welcome expressions of interest from people of the Global Majority, people with disabilities (including ‘invisible’ disabilities or neurodiversity such as autism and dyslexia) and people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, as these groups remain underrepresented in our sector.
