Thoughts from CPD Workshop and Choreographic Residency participants

It was a fantastic week and I think it was that because of the women who were in the room. It was a supportive and honest environment which enabled the week to be so revealing and testing for us all. So what’s stayed with me: that it is so important to have these opportunities to take time to reflect and challenge your practice.

Missing you guys. It’s amazing how close you get to people in a short space of time when you work creatively. Thanks to you all- for the week, your advice and being so friendly.

The week was truly what I needed at this moment in time, and I’m very thankful to you for being so open and honest with your advice. I’m feeling way more confident. Spending a week taking time and seriously discussing our work and ourselves has reassured me. I’ve realised how important it is to discuss and try out ideas. I’ve been sat on top of my own ideas, on my own, for a long time. Basically it has dug me out of my self and made me excited about doing.

The choreolab has indeed left me with lots to think about.

The first intensive of the programme was very beneficial for me, because it gave an opportunity to be in a place with other artists where I felt we were all equals and also felt safe to share doubts and concerns. Those two days challenged me to think about my practice in a very objective and practical way. Over the two days we shared concepts and ideas. A lot of questions were asked; personally I did not answer most of them, however now I know the questions I should be answering or at least the very basic ones. This was a very good start for many among the group or at least that is my impression.

Working with Charlotte within the group setting which was built enhanced my knowledge of each individual artist on the Expanding Horizons Programme, encouraging each other’s development alongside our own individual growth as artists.

[The two days have] helped me understand that the sector has many definitions of producer. The skills and processes I go through in my work relate to the varied understandings of what a producer is.

It was interesting to do these two days at the start of the process as being a slight outsider and not knowing everyone. I feel I really got to know who they are, what they want to achieve and understand them as a person and artist. This really helped bed us in to a group/ team mentality.

I would like to say how inspiring, challenging and motivating Charlotte’s sessions were. A great start to Expanding Horizons. Yes, my brain was a little fried, but it was a real pleasure to talk, at such great lengths, with other artists in the room.
