Collaborative Devising Residencies
VDT offer creative residencies in schools, colleges or university level for students to create an original performance production, using VDT’s interdisciplinary methodology and approach. This is a unique opportunity for students to gain insight into how an established dance theatre company creates new work. These residencies provide students with a host of skills and new tasks to develop their own devised work.
‘It was great to see the students working together and engaging with Charlotte and her methods of working. The workshop exposed the students in Level 1 to a movement style that they had not yet encountered. For Level 2 and 3, it was a chance to revisit some of the fundamental principles of contact work, and apply these in a choreographic setting.’ Tessa Palfrey, Lecturer in Dance, University of Lincoln
These residencies are suitable for BTEC, A-Level, International Baccalaureate programmes and undergraduate programmes; for students aged 14 plus.
VDT artists will introduce students to various devising processes and strategies used by VDT when working collaboratively to produce multi-disciplined productions. Students will learn how to apply and transfer skills and ideas into their own productions, using production specific exercises from SHUT DOWN & VIRGIN TERRITORY and other VDT works.
The residencies enhance students’ ability to devise original material that is current, moving, personal, evocative and engaging. It develops a deeper understanding of devising contemporary performance and skills in movement, directing and critical analysis.
‘Extremely engaging and challenging. I will definitely be able to take away techniques and exercises to help me.’ BA Student, Plymouth University
VDT Residencies are offered for groups of up to 30 participants. Workshops are pitched to the level and experience of the group and can be tailor-made to be relevant to a variety of assessment requirements including at GCSE, BETC, AS and A-Level as well as IB and undergraduate and postgraduate studies. The workshops can be used to prepare students for the assessment requirements of AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC and IB
Our workshops can be held at the school or a suitable venue.
