Ella Burns

Board Member

Ella Burns is a Writer and Producer and is currently Project Manager of the Brighton & Hove Culture Alliance based at the University of Sussex. In her role, Ella supports the Culture Action Group and the two current working groups, Anti-Racism group and Space to Grow, whilst looking for new opportunities and voices to strengthen the alliance and the cultural sector in Brighton.

Previously, Ella was Programme Manager at the National Literacy Trust, working within in the Home Learning Environment team on campaigns to improve literacy and home learning support for families and children.

As Co-founder and Director of creative writing and mentoring charity, Little Green Pig which worked with 800 individual children and young people each year, focusing on those from disadvantaged communities, Ella has considerable hands-on experience in the issues connected with running a small arts charitable organisation and what it requires from a Board. She is particularly concerned with how teams work – and whether a team has complementary skills and have effective working relationships, and how difficult decisions are made.

Ella joined VDT’s Board in July 2021, is VDT’ Safeguarding Lead on the Board and sits on VDT’s Finance Sub-Committee.
