Dansopolis Community Dance Festival, Leeds, Taking Flight
2004
Commissioned as part of Yorkshire Dance's first ever Dansopolis Community Dance Festival, Taking Flight involved 50 performers in the making of an intergenerational production performed at the West Yorkshire Playhouse on 10th July 2004.
TC Howard worked over six weeks with four groups in Leeds - Mind the Step (people with special needs and their carers), Sharpe Lane Primary School (8-11 year olds), Yorkshire Dance's Over 50's Jazz Group, Yorkshire Dance's Recent Graduates Group and with St Joseph's Primary School in Sheffield (a group of parents/guardians and their children).
Taking Flight explored flights of imagination, showing off like birds of paradise, soaring through the air like super-girl and finding new wings to prepare for life's many twists and turns.
Commissioned by Yorkshire Dance, funded by West Yorkshire Grants, Arts Council England, Yorkshire and Arts Leeds.
