Virgin Territory and Shut Down Workshops

ONGOING

‘It opened my mind to both sides of the situation and made me really think about the sexualisation of both boys and girls’ Participant, Brighton

VDT are delivering VIRGIN TERRITORY and SHUT DOWN WORKSHOPS with young people (14+) and adults to investigate the challenges that young people face.

VIRGIN TERRITORY WORKSHOPS take place in a ‘staged space’ with participants responding to a series of craft based tasks and filmed sequences of the live work. The workshops are a space to express opinions, learn something new and be creative and can be adapted to suit the needs of different groups.

Participant’s responses are shared online in workshop photo galleries, which you can browse here.

SHUT DOWN WORKSHOPS explore masculinity, and the pressures, contradictions and confusions of being a man today. Workshops offer a space to create visual and/or spoken word responses to SHUT DOWN installation. You can read more about these sessions via the below PDF:

Participants can also contribute to VDT’s digital campaign for change that runs alongside workshops. The campaign invites people to at write and share one positive practical action anyone can do to combat the pressures of everyday sexism and online culture. You can see the hundreds of contributions so far by searching #VDTEverydayAction.
