A community project with a focus on Audience Development which drew new people to dance as participants and active viewers through a series of creative dance workshops taking place over 5 weeks in the region and leading to a large scale intergenerational, mixed ability, public performance involving 75 performers in the Royal Spa Ballroom on 1st June 2003. The project tested the possibilities of dance attendance through formal marketing techniques for the general public through informal marketing networks whilst also providing a focus for the people living in and around Bridlington to meet and dance with each other.
Working in partnership with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Vincent Dance Theatre collaborated with Woldgate secondary school in Pocklington, Mind Group in Bridlington, Norton College in Sheffield, Cherry Tree Youth Group in Goole, Driffield Day Centre and a Young Carers group from Beverley, exploring different ways of moving and creating work.
With live music from The Dizzy Club and a free for all dance session for performers and audience to conclude the event, the final production of Bridlington Waltz was attended by around150 friends, families and passers by.
Funded by Regional Arts Lottery Programme and commissioned by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
