PULSE
VINCENT DANCE THEATRE AT THE ROYAL FESTIVAL HALL
AS PART OF 'FREE SUMMER ON THE SOUTH BANK' SEASON.

Conceived and curated by Charlotte Vincent
Co-ordinated by Mairead Turner
Production Manager James Harrison

On 17th August, 2002 VDT hosted Pulse, a day of dance in collaboration with Yorkshire Dance, which included a programme of dance classes and workshops, accompanied live swing jazz band (The Dizzy Club), live DJ-ing workshops and trampoline sessions, two live performances of VDT's video installation On the House and video presentations throughout the day of past VDT participation projects (Club, Martial Dance, Orbital and Plunge). All activity took place in and around the Ballroom at the Royal Festival Hall.

The programme included contemporary dance and contact improvisation workshops led by Charlotte Vincent, an integrated disability workshop with TC Howard, mixing and beat-matching DJ classes with Lloyd Samuels, a Hip Hop workshop with Shane Fenton, a Jazz class with Pauline Mayers and a Salsa workshop with Tanya Cussan. The day finished with an open contact jam session.

Around 2000 people took part or watched classes and performances, creating a thoroughly successful introduction to all the facets of the company's work.
